Editor's Verdict

The film weaves together multiple lives connected by a single, life-altering incident, unfolding into an emotionally powerful family drama. At its heart is the love story of Zaara and Maiz, two people from vastly different social backgrounds. Zaara, the only daughter of a wealthy man, falls in love with Maiz, a middle-class man. Their relationship is cut short when Zaara’s father firmly rejects their marriage and orchestrates their separation. In the aftermath, Zaara becomes pregnant, setting off a chain of events that shapes several lives.

Unbeknownst to Zaara, her newborn child is secretly sent to Maiz by her father. To further secure his interests, he forces Zaara into marriage with Ziyad, a man who agrees for money despite loving someone else. When Zaara and Ziyad eventually separate, fate deals another blow, Zaara is pregnant again. This time, she raises her daughter alone, only to face a heartbreaking reality when the child is diagnosed as a thalassemia carrier, requiring regular blood transfusions. As destiny would have it, Zaara’s two daughters cross paths later in life, unaware that they share the same mother, leading the story toward deeply emotional and poignant moments.

Spanning nearly three hours, the film is clearly well researched, especially in its handling of medical conditions, which are portrayed with sensitivity and clarity. While the lengthy runtime allows the story to breathe, it also results in a few loopholes and some side narratives that feel incomplete. However, these shortcomings rarely distract from the central emotional journey, which remains the film’s true focus.

Director Nahula deserves special praise for capturing raw, unfiltered emotions. The film is intensely moving, so much so that even the most emotionally reserved viewers may find themselves in tears. Performances across the board are strong, with the child artists standing out for their natural and heartfelt portrayals. The music plays a crucial role in amplifying the emotional weight of the story and successfully connects with the audience.

Overall, this film is a deeply touching and socially relevant drama that resonates strongly with Maldivian audiences. Beyond its emotional impact, it delivers an important message and raises awareness about medical conditions often overlooked. Despite minor flaws, it stands as a powerful, memorable cinematic experience that lingers long after the credits roll.
