Originally written nearly a decade ago by Yashfa, this award-winning story has been adapted to suit the present day. While the intention behind the adaptation is commendable, the transition is not without its flaws. In the process, several important events from the original story were omitted, and certain narrative loopholes remain unresolved. Viewers familiar with the original work may feel that the film is incomplete, as key emotional and structural elements are missing.

The pacing is uneven, with the first half feeling noticeably draggy. Scenes take longer than necessary to move the story forward, diluting the emotional impact. However, the second half finds its rhythm, with events unfolding at a much stronger pace and offering a sense of narrative completion that the earlier portion lacks.

Performance-wise, Azza delivers her strongest performance to date as Kanbulo, bringing depth and restraint to a demanding role. Isse and Nimal also offer solid performances, supporting the narrative effectively. Washiya, despite limited screen time, leaves a strong impression with a focused and impactful performance, standing out among the cast.

Technically, the film is well executed. The music complements the emotional tone, and the cinematography is visually strong, enhancing the realism of the story. More than its technical merits, however, the film connects easily with Maldivian audiences due to the familiarity and relevance of its subject matter.

Ultimately, the story is the film’s greatest strength. With a more refined and tightly structured screenplay, this adaptation could have achieved far greater impact. Despite its shortcomings, the film remains a meaningful effort that sparks conversation and reflection.
