Editor's Verdict

Udhabaani 2 picks up with Lathafa and Laamiu, whose once-happy marriage is disrupted by a supernatural force that follows them to N. Landhoo, where they attempt to start a new life. As Laamiu befriends his coworker Shareef, Lathafa becomes emotionally vulnerable, growing close to her impoverished uncle Moosafulhu. The turning point comes when Shareef persuades Lathafa to replace her amulet, unknowingly placing her under dark influence. Her sudden emotional shift and demand for divorce leaves Laamiu shattered, until he uncovers the truth: the Shareef they trusted is an imposter, a supernatural entity using black magic to tear their marriage apart.

While the premise holds potential, the story ultimately feels too simple and predictable, offering nothing particularly new to the horror genre. As a sequel to Udhabaani, which was a massive success, expectations were naturally high, but Udhabaani 2 fails to live up to the strength and impact of its predecessor. The narrative does not justify the sequel, and the weak screenplay further dilutes the tension and emotional depth.

Technically, the film delivers mixed results. The cinematography is decent but lacks a modern visual style that could have elevated the horror elements. Makeup work is noticeably weak, often appearing artificial and breaking immersion. Most importantly, the raw fear and unsettling atmosphere that defined the first film are largely absent here.

Performance-wise, Easa delivers a solid and convincing act, standing out in an otherwise uneven cast. The music score is another disappointment, carrying a dated 90s feel that does not complement the genre. Additionally, the color grading and visual effects fall short of expectations, further reducing the film’s overall impact. In the end, Udhabaani 2 is watchable but underwhelming. It neither expands the universe of the original nor matches its intensity. As a standalone film it may pass, but as a sequel to a beloved horror hit, it simply does not do justice to the legacy of Udhabaani.
