
Ali Shifau (born 19 May 1977) is a Maldivian film director, cinematographer, and editor who has worked extensively in the local film industry across a range of genres, including crime, psychological thriller, family drama, horror, and action. He has been active in filmmaking since the mid-2000s and is known for handling both creative and technical aspects of his projects.
He first drew attention with the crime film Heylaa (2006), co-directed with Moomin Fuad. The film was notable for being the first Maldivian feature shot in high-definition digital video and for its realistic approach to crime storytelling. Although it did not achieve major commercial success at the time, it marked an important technical shift in local filmmaking.
Over the years, Shifau has directed several feature films, including Zaharu (2011), Fathis Handhuvaruge Feshun 3D(2013), Vakin Loabin (2018), Maamui (2019), Fureytha (2024), and Alifaan (2025, co-director). His filmography reflects a consistent interest in genre-driven narratives and experimentation with format and technology.
In addition to feature films, Ali Shifau has worked on short films and other projects, contributing to Maldivian cinema as both a director and technician. His work has received recognition at local film award platforms, and he continues to remain active in the industry.
