
On July 26, Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory message to Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, marking the 60th anniversary of the Republic of Maldives’ independence.
In his message, President Xi Jinping extended “sincere congratulations and best wishes to the government and people of the Maldives” on behalf of the Chinese government and its people.
President Xi emphasized the long history of friendly exchanges between China and the Maldives, noting that since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1972, their relationship has seen “healthy and stable development.” He highlighted this as a “good example of equal treatment, mutual assistance and mutual benefit between countries of different sizes.”
He also referenced President Muizzu’s “successful state visit to China in January 2024,” recalling their “cordial and friendly exchanges” and the “broad consensus” reached during that time. President Xi reiterated the importance he places on the development of China-Maldives relations, expressing his desire to work with President Muizzu to “continuously promote the China-Maldives comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, and jointly build a China-Maldives community with a shared future.”
On the same day, Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, also sent a congratulatory message to Dr. Abdulla Khaleel, the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Maldives
