The first look video of the upcoming Maldivian film “Loabin…?”, written and directed by acclaimed filmmaker Ilyas Waheed, has been officially released, sparking intrigue and excitement among local cinema fans. Known for his gripping storytelling in films like Bavathi and Nina, Ilyas returns with what appears to be another compelling project—this time blending romance and mystery.
The teaser opens with visually rich romantic sequences featuring Ahmed Sharif, Thaathi Adam, and Ahmed Ifnaz, suggesting a complex love triangle. The scenes unfold to a soulful track by Shammoon, lead singer of the popular band Equatic Vibe, adding emotional weight and atmosphere to the visuals.
The mood quickly shifts in the second half of the video, presenting a flurry of intense, fast-paced scenes that hint at deeper layers within the narrative—possibly suspenseful or even psychological. This tonal shift suggests that “Loabin…?” may not be a typical melodrama, but rather a multi-genre film in line with Ilyas Waheed’s previous works, Bavathi and Nina, both celebrated for their mysterious undertones and narrative twists.
“Loabin…?” marks Ilyas’ return to the director’s chair following last year’s horror-thriller Kanbalhi. The cast brings together some of the most notable talents in the industry. Ahmed Sharif, who delivered a strong performance in Moomin Fuad’s commercially successful and critically acclaimed Abadhah in April, leads the film. Thaathi Adam, who last collaborated with Ilyas in Kanbalhi (2024), and Ahmed Ifnaz, who was also part of Kanbalhi, join the lead cast. Nuzhath Shuaib also plays a key role, although her character remains under wraps.
“Loabin…?” is set to premiere on August 6, 2025, at Olympus Cinema, just days after the release of Fathimath Nahula’s much-anticipated film Sorry. With the first look already generating buzz, all eyes are now on Ilyas Waheed to see if he will once again deliver a film that is both thought-provoking and genre-defying.
More details about the film’s plot and character dynamics are expected to be revealed in the coming weeks.
