Acclaimed Maldivian filmmaker Ilyas Waheed has officially begun filming his latest project, Loabin, marking his first foray into the romantic genre. The announcement has generated buzz among fans and film enthusiasts, especially given Ilyas’s track record for genre-defying storytelling.
Loabin, written and directed by Ilyas, is being produced under the collaborative banners of iFilms, Lightsout Productions, and Ingenious Visual Factory. While the star cast remains under wraps for now, anticipation continues to build ahead of the film’s slated release later this year.
Ilyas Waheed made his directorial debut in 2019 with the psychological thriller Bavathi, which was widely praised for its gripping narrative and cinematic style. He followed it up with Nina, an action-packed thriller, and later ventured into comedy suspense with Free Delivery. His most recent release, Kanbalhi, explored the horror thriller genre and further cemented his reputation as one of the most versatile directors in the Maldivian film industry.
With Loabin, Ilyas turns to romance for the first time in his career. Though plot details remain under wraps, the project promises to showcase a new dimension of his storytelling talent.
