Hambe’s TikTok journey began as a way to escape the monotony of the COVID-19 lockdown. He initially posted DJ mixes of old Dhivehi songs, which resonated with viewers. His break came when he discovered TikTok’s live feature.
“At first, I was too shy to even appear in front of the camera,” Hambe admitted. However, his passion for connecting with audiences grew, and he began hosting live gaming sessions. Gradually, Hambe transitioned into an engaging TikTok personality. His content has since expanded to include everything from DJ sessions to lighthearted videos with his wife.
Going Viral with Humor and Love
Hambe’s videos featuring his wife, Kate, teaching her Dhivehi through English translations, became internet sensations. What started as a playful way to share cultural nuances became a viral hit.
“It was actually a trick to teach her Dhivehi,” Hambe said with a smile. Despite the popularity of these videos, they stopped after a while due to time constraints.

“I want Maldivian TikTok stars to be on par with international creators,” he says. While challenges like currency restrictions and limited earning avenues remain, Hambe is optimistic about the future.
He believes that the key to success lies in nurturing talent and creating meaningful content. “Maldivians are incredibly talented. We need to use that talent properly to avoid ruining the TikTok community.”
