
Ali Azzam is a Maldivian filmmaker and screenwriter active in contemporary Dhivehi cinema. He is credited with writing and directing the 2024 Maldivian feature film Dheydharu Ruin, an action crime drama that addresses human trafficking in its narrative. The film was co‑produced by Ilyas Waheed and Asim Ali under Kazmik International and IFilms and was released on 20 November 2024.
In Dheydharu Ruin, Azzam took on both writing and directorial responsibilities, crafting the story and screenplay as well as overseeing the film’s direction. The project marked a notable effort to bring a socially relevant issue to Maldivian screens and involved a cast including Sharaf Abdulla, Maiha Adam, Hazif Mohamed, Moosa Rasheed, and Sushma Subedi.
Through his work on Dheydharu Ruin, Ali Azzam has contributed to Dhivehi cinema as both a creative storyteller and a director engaged with genre filmmaking.
