In today’s digital age, businesses are transforming faster than ever, and Javaabu is right at the heart of it all in the Maldives. What started as a small, scrappy operation is now a company making waves in web design, app development, and even artificial intelligence. Their story is one of grit, innovation, and a whole lot of hard work.

A Shift to Digital: From Flyers to Smart Tech

Not too long ago, businesses relied on flyers, TV commercials, and radio ads to spread their message. Fast forward to today, and it’s all about the internet. Social media is king when it comes to promoting services, and even government offices have taken the leap with websites and apps.

The Maldives isn’t getting left behind in this tech race, and Javaabu has been a key player in helping the country keep pace with global trends. They’re behind some major digital projects and are constantly pushing the envelope in tech.

How Javaabu Came to Be

The name “Javaabu” has a fun backstory. It came about when co-founder Arshad’s habit of asking endless questions earned him the nickname “suvaalu” (question). But instead of sticking with that, they flipped the idea and went with “javaabu,” which means “answer.”

Co-founders Mohammed Jailam and Arshad started Javaabu in a tiny office with no restroom. When nature called, they’d either run to the mosque or head home. Despite the less-than-ideal conditions, the two put in long hours, sometimes sleeping at the office.

Coding wasn’t easy, and projects took time, but they kept at it. Their hard work paid off, and Javaabu grew into a trusted name, handling projects like the Visit Maldives and Job Center websites.

Teaching the Next Generation: Javaabu Academy

Running a small business comes with its challenges—especially cash flow. To keep things sustainable, Jailam had the brilliant idea of turning their office into a coding classroom. That’s how Javaabu Academy came to life.

What started small soon took off, with people across the country signing up to learn online. Now, the academy is one of the Maldives’ go-to platforms for tech education, offering courses for all ages. It’s giving young Maldivians the tools to build careers in tech, which is pretty awesome.

Diving Into AI: Dhivehi Chat GPT and Kaiydha

AI is the future, and Javaabu is diving in headfirst. They’ve developed Dhivehi Chat GPT, which answers questions in Dhivehi by pulling information from the internet. It’s already live, but they’re working on making it even better with features like narration and audio typing.

They’ve also created Kaiydha, an AI agent introduced at a festival celebrating Dhivehi language and culture. Kaiydha is still a prototype, but it’s a big step in showcasing how AI can be adapted for local languages.

For Maldivians, By Maldivians

One thing that makes Javaabu stand out is their focus on hiring Maldivians. Jailam admits it’s not always easy to keep young people engaged, especially when many prefer flexible hours and a chill lifestyle. But Javaabu is committed to creating opportunities for local talent and helping them grow.

Big Dreams, Big Impact

Javaabu’s story is proof that anything is possible with hard work and determination. Jailam and Arshad have been recognized for their efforts, winning Youth Awards in 2022 and 2023. For them, it’s not just about the recognition—it’s about showing what’s possible in the Maldives.

From launching groundbreaking AI projects to teaching the next generation of coders, Javaabu is shaping the tech future of the Maldives. It’s a reminder that even the smallest beginnings can lead to something truly game-changing.

Javaabu isn’t just a company—it’s an inspiration for anyone chasing big dreams.
